I have this person i’m dating. He brought up the idea of gifting ourselves monthly which i thought was beautiful. I got him two vintage shirts the first month while he got me a necklace (which rusted and i had to throw away by the way, only to find out it was N2k from jumia) only to get lectured about financial literacy and how i shouldn’t have spent a lot (like bro you brought up gifting each month not me). During his birthday and val, i respected myself and reduced my expenditure before i get another lecture on financial literacy. Got him a customized wallet for val and a clipper set for his birthday. For my birthday, i got sheet masks, eye masks and mouth wash all in satchets. I have no problem with that but for a birthday, it felt like lazy gifting and something i’d just use and forget it existed. I expected something i’d get to use for a long time and be reminded that this was a gift from my person.
