Family isn’t always everything

I finally summoned the courage to tell my mum how her sister’s husband sexually abused me 17 years ago. I was 15. It took me that long to tell her because she is overly strict. She told me it happened several years ago and there is nothing she can do about it. We spoke 2 weeks later, and after exchanging greetings, she told me she had just gotten off the phone with her sister and her husband, and in fact, they gisted and laughed for hours. How can you be on good terms with someone who assaulted your own daughter? I’ve felt pain before, but never like this.
