During Nigeria’s 2023 cash scarcity, stressed and drained, I joined the yoga class for the first time at my gym. It was my first and last time trying yoga. After the class I felt relaxed, so I decided to lift some weights before heading home, and smoking a blunt. While smoking, the high felt different, I experienced an intense spiritual awakening, as if entities were around me. It seemed my yoga experience had unlocked something in me, leaving me feeling exposed and terrified. I prayed desperately to “reblind” myself. I don’t smoke anymore but I can’t help but remember how scary the experience was. I later learned that the yoga conflicts with my Christian/Catholic faith due to its ties to chakra activation. Maybe I wasn’t spiritually ready for what it revealed.
