My parents are big pastors in a popular church in Nigeria. Being pastors you’d think our family would be model family to the church members, rather, my dad has turned my mum into a punching bag. My mum is quite elderly, at her age, her husband is still beating her and making her sleep outside. She is 65. She should be reaping the fruit of her labour not suffering, we her children have tried to get her another apartment to stay in, but she keeps going back to her husband. My dad has done a lot of bad things, including sexual harassing a colleague of his at work, he took the woman to a hotel not knowing the woman’s husband was in on it, he barged into the room and recorded him pants down and said he’d only forgive him if he called his wife. My mum was called but to save face, they died the situation. The recent development now is finding out that my dad has a secret family elsewhere but I can’t even tell my mum. I’m so worried because we the children are already grown and no longer home, I am worried that he’d kill my mum when no one is around because the beating is getting too much. My mum is not poor, she makes even more money than him, yet she is trying so hard because of their position in the church. All our neighbors already know they are fake at this point, because he hits her and leaves her naked outside. Yet they pretend like the sweetest couple in church. I am appalled. All our extended families have intervened and given up. No one is picking our calls anymore because every time they intervene, my father threatens them.
