My parents hand things to my siblings too much, they don’t let us handle things ourselves. They always provide for us. I and my elder sibling are both graduates yet they want to control our every decision. I’m grateful for what they do but I’m scared it’s not sustainable in the long run. Because assuming they had like massive wealth and then they make life easy for us it won’t be a problem but it’s different.

They don’t have so much and they don’t even have savings that much. I really wish they could just let us do things ourself. African parents are scared of losing control of their children and the one way they lose control is when their child is financially independent and I fear my parents are trying to make us dependent on them financially without even knowing it. And it’s dangerous.

They mean well but there well might not be the best. I had a business while I was in school but I’m bad at saving money so I couldn’t save up enough money to be able to pay for my own place after uni so my parents told me to come home and run the business from where we live, which is far from where I went to school. It’s hard navigating cos I don’t have customers here but I’m trying. I just really want to break with from my parents trying to spoon-feed me, cos I know it’s not sustainable. ❤
